Purchaser–provider arrangements
During the year in review, the department had a cross-agency arrangement, the Service Level Agreement (SLA), under which it provided common administrative services to Australian Government agencies overseas.
In 2002–03, the department provided services under the SLA to:
- Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID)
- Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research
- Australian Customs Service
- Australian Federal Police
- Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation
- Australian Protective Service
- Australian Security Intelligence Organisation
- Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation
- Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
- Department of Defence
- Department of Education, Science and Training
- Department of Family and Community Services
- Department of Health and Ageing
- Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs
- Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources
- Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
- Department of the Treasury
- Department of Veterans Affairs
- Invest Australia
- National Library of Australia
The main purchasers of services under the SLA were the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, the Department of Defence and AusAID.
The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) is not a signatory to the SLA agreement and has elected to purchase management (common) services from the department under a separate Memorandum of Understanding.
The department also has purchaser–provider arrangements with Australian Government agencies that require international telecommunications and office automation services for staff at Australias overseas missions. The department provides these services to the following agencies:

- Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research
- Australian Customs Service
- Australian Federal Police
- Austrade
- Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (including the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service)
- Department of Defence

- Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs
- Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources
- Department of the Treasury
- National Library of Australia
The department also has purchaser–provider arrangements with Australian Government agencies that require access to the departments information technology services within Australia. The department provides these services to the following agencies:
