Dr Anne Aly, BA, PGDA, MEd, PhD
Dr Anne Aly is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the School of Computer and Information Security, Security Research Centre (SECAU), Edith Cowan University, Perth. She has previously worked as a Senior Policy Officer in the WA Office of Multicultural Interests and Manager of Community Education and Training at the WA Equal Opportunity Commission. Anne has represented on committees and working groups relating to multiculturalism, migrant and refugee settlement and ethnic communities.
Anne currently conducts teaching and research on terrorism and international security, the fear of terrorism and radicalisation. She has also written books, chapters and articles on participatory citizenship, Arab/Muslim Australian identity and social responses to the terrorist threat in Australia. Anne has been invited to address international conferences on diverse issues such as Muslim Australian identity, political extremism, the politics of fear and Muslim women in the Western media.
Anne was born in Alexandria, Egypt and migrated to Australia when she was two years old. She grew up in Sydney and returned to Egypt to study where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the American University in Cairo. She lives in Perth with her husband and three sons.
