Seven young Australians have been selected to represent Australia at the Conference for Youth of Egyptian Communities Abroad, to be held in Alexandria in July this year.

The Conference will bring together young people of Egyptian descent from countries around the world to experience their cultural heritage and share their experiences.

The seven Australian participants, most of whom have never visited Egypt before, were selected on the basis of their ability to represent Australian-Egyptian youth.

The initiative is sponsored by the Council for Australian Arab Relations (CAAR). CAAR's mission is to promote between the peoples of Australia and the Arab world mutual interests and a greater understanding and acceptance of each other's cultures, values, beliefs and diversity.

CAAR will fund the participants' travel to Egypt, where they will be guests of the Egyptian Government's National Council for Youth.

The two-week program will include meetings with Egyptian Government Ministers, members of the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement, high-ranking officials and journalists, as well as tours of Egypt's historical and cultural sites.

The participants include: one from SA, NSW, ACT, WA and three from VIC.
