Australia-Malaysia Institute
The Australia-Malaysia Institute was established in 2005 to strengthen people-to-people and institutional links with Malaysia and to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation between Australia and Malaysia.
The AMI is a wholly Australian initiative and is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Institute works with institutions and individuals in Australia and Malaysia to achieve its objectives. The Institute also seeks to enter into strategic alliances with possible sponsors and partners to enhance its programs.
The Australia-Malaysia Institute is presided over by a Board appointed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The Institute is supported by a Secretariat which is located in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra.

Sister Schools Exchange Small Grants Program now open
Sister Schools Exchange Small Grants Program is now open and will close on Monday 20 February 2012. This grant round is designed to assist Australian and Malaysian sister schools to continue to be active in building their relationships, through visits and exchanges.
AMI Media Interns
University of Sydney students, Renee Moore and Robert Kennard, have commenced their AMI Media Internship program which includes a placement with the Malaysian newspaper, The Star and a week working at the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.

2012 Asialink Residents to Malaysia
AMI is delighted that Kath Papas and Bec Steves are the successful recipients of the 2012 Asialink Arts Residency Program, an AMI funded program that partners with Asialink to enable Australian practitioners to form productive networks with Malaysian arts communities and organisations.
Kath Papas, from Melbourne is a creative producer and consultant specialising in dance and will undertake her residency at the 2012 Melaka Arts and Performance Festival in Malaysia. Bec Steves, from Tasmania is a visual artist specialising in photography, drawing and object-assemblage using plant matter to engage with the social and historical nuances of constructed environments. Bec’s focus during her residency will be the plant inventories at the Garden of Rimban Dahan.
