About the Australia-Malaysia Institute

The Australia-Malaysia Institute (AMI) was established in 2005 with the objective of enhancing links between Australia and Malaysia and to build a strong platform for the future.

A key goal of the Institute is to strengthen Australia’s people-to-people and institutional links with Malaysia. In this way, the Institute aims to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation between Australia and Malaysia for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The AMI is a wholly Australian initiative and is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Institute works with institutions and individuals in Australia and Malaysia to achieve its objectives. The Institute also seeks to enter into strategic alliances with possible sponsors and partners to enhance its programs.

The Australia-Malaysia Institute is presided over by an Executive Committee appointed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The Institute is supported by a Secretariat which is located in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra.

Mission Statement

The Institute’s mission is to promote bilateral relations by increasing linkages between people and institutions of Australia and Malaysia, and by the promotion of Australia in Malaysia.
