Australia-Korea Early Career Researchers Exchange Program
With the support of AKF, a successful partnership has been forged between the Australian Academy of Science (AAS), the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) and their Korean counterpart, the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), formerly the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF),
Together the partners have developed the Australia-Korea Early Career Researchers Program (ECRP) which offers early career researchers from both countries the opportunity to work on collaborative research projects, embedded in their host institution for up to 3 months. The program also involves mentors in the development and evaluation of each project allowing the researchers to engage with leading Australian and Korean researchers in their specific research field.

Korean researchers in Australia 2009
In total there have been three exchanges since 2007, the last being from June to August 2009, when four Korean early career researchers were hosted by institutions across Australia. All the participants were pleased to be able to acquire specific knowledge related to their current research, expand areas for future research between their institutions, develop papers for journals and conferences, as well as enjoy valuable cultural experiences and gain many friendships during their stay in Australia. Overall, the program has developed a greater awareness of areas of common research interest and shown where sharing expertise in science and technology can bring mutual benefits.
The return visit of Australian scientists to Korea is planned for July-August 2011.
