As part of its role in providing advice to the Australian Government on cultural diplomacy, the AICC has a particular interest in the following cultural diplomacy programs run by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade:
Focus Country Programs
The AICC mounts country-specific cultural programs which aim to strengthen and deepen ties with the countries through integrated arts and cultural events and activities.
This year, the focus country program is celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Vietnam. The program has shared Australian dance, music, sport, science education and cooking with Vietnamese audiences. Tours by Bangarra Dance Theatre, jazz trio Elixir and Questacon have been highlights, with more to come later in 2013.
In 2012, DFAT led the largest Australian cultural festival ever staged in India. Called Oz Fest, the festival showcased the creativity, dynamism and diversity of contemporary Australia through events featuring Australian music, art, food, films, literature, dance, comedy and sport.
Next year the AICC will take Oz Fest to Indonesia with a professionally curated program featuring the very best of Australia’s creative talent. Oz Fest Indonesia 2014 will reach across the Indonesian archipelago and promote not only Australian arts and culture, but also our credentials in sport, science, education and industry.
