Australia-China Council 2002-3 Beijing and Taipei Residence Awards

On 25 September the ACC selected the 2002-3 Residence Awards.

2002-3 Beijing Residents:

November-January: Dr Jane Bell and associates.  Research Project: To foster scholarly collaboration and exchange of information between Australian and Chinese researchers and educators in the field of HIV/AIDS; To organize dialogue between Australian health and justice experts and representatives of China's Public Security Bureau and Ministry of Health.

February: Mr Craig Wilson.  Business Project: To consider the current role of, and opportunities for, Australian companies with direct investments in China in leveraging poverty reduction initiatives from their mainstream fixed investment.

March: Ms Christen Cornell.  Literature Project: To conduct research and development for a translation of fiction from Chinese to English; to research and then complete critical writing on Beijing graffiti.

April: Ms Katherine Hattam.  Art Project: Drawing from life - land/cityscapes, 3D casts.

May: Mr Danny McDonald.  Art Project: Consultation with artists, art teachers and students to gain understanding of visual art education programs in China.

June: Mr David Livingstone.  Legal Project: Research on intellectual property rights regulations in China, including transparency of the Chinese legal and administrative structures.

2002-3 Taipei Residents:

November: Dr Simon Patton.  Literature Project: Translation of poetry of Yu Jian; translation of contemporary Chinese poetry for a new Chinese poetry website to be launched in late 2002.

December: Ms Bronwen van Leeuwen.  Art Project: To mount exhibitions in Taiwan and Australia based on study of Influence of Chinese Calligraphy on Australian Painting.

January-February: Ms Elizabeth Cameron Dalman.  Dance Project: To research historical links in the development of contemporary dance in Australia and Taiwan and build on strong ties already existing between the Grace Hsiao Dance Theatre in Taipei and Mirramu Dance Company.

March-May: Ms Barbara Penrose/Mr Nameer Davis. Art Project: Public art sites in China - what meaning can be taken from a study of the monument and its site in Taiwan, to inform contemporary Public Art practice and its Public, in Australia?

June: Mr Graham Long.  Fashion Project: Research training programs available in Fashion and Clothing Programs at Beijing and Taipei universities.
