Australia-China Council Asialink Arts Fellowship

The Australia-China Council Asialink Arts Fellowship provides opportunities for an Australian artist, performer, writer or arts manager to live and work in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Macau. Residencies are usually of three to four months duration and each residency offers a specified amount of funding and initial contacts.

The 2004 Fellowship was awarded to Mr Daniel Huppatz, an Australian writer, who undertook a residency in Beijing. In 2005, Melbourne sound artist, Mr Ian Mott, received the fellowship. The 2006 recipient was Mr Benython Oldfield, who works in publishing and identified Chinese writers who were not known in the west and brought them to Australian publishers and writers’ festivals. Mr Willow Neilson has been awarded the fellowship for 2007. He will strengthen his jazz connections in Shanghai. Ms Linda Jaivin and Ms Alice Pung have both been awarded ACC funding for their literature fellowships in China in 2008.

Each year, the focus of the Australia-China Council Asialink Arts Fellowship is different. In 2009 it will be awarded in the field of visual arts. Applications closed on Friday 5 September 2008.

Enquiries and applications concerning the Australia-China Council Asialink Arts Fellowship should be directed to Asialink that manages this fellowship (called a residency by Asialink) on our behalf.

Australia-China Council Churchill Fellowship

The Australia-China Council sponsored a Churchill Fellowship for a project that enhanced people-to-people links and mutual understanding between Australia and China.

Ms Amanda Phillips from South Australia was awarded the Australia-China Council Churchill Fellowship in 2007. Her project is to identify strategies for implementing cultural education and learning of the arts through inclusive systems for dance in Asia. In undertaking her fellowship, Ms Phillips will spend eight weeks visiting China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore (commencement was delayed until 1 October 2008) with $22,224 of support from the Council (as costed by the Winston Churchill Trust).
