Australian Studies in China Program
The ACC has been supporting Australian Studies in China for over a decade and provides funding to a network of around 20 Australian Studies Centres across China. In 2003 the ACC partnered with a consortium of Australian universities, led by the Australian Studies Centre at the University of Queensland together with the Australian Centre at the University of Melbourne, to promote Australian Studies in China. The consortium manages the ACC’s Australian Studies program and can be contacted at austudies.china@uq.edu.au
Australian Studies Program Objectives:
- Enhance the range, volume, quality and value of research on Australia, and promote the dissemination of research outcomes in China through publishing, conferences and other means.
- Promote greater Australian content in teaching at all levels of the Chinese educational system.
In 2006-07, Australian Studies Centres in China that applied for Output Awards:
- published more than 60 articles in academic journals
- published 17 books
- had over 70 academics researching and teaching Australian Studies
- taught more than 95 PhD/Masters students, and
- taught more than 1,500 university students doing courses in Australian studies.

- Book Prize: The 2008 Book Prizes will be awarded at the Australian Studies Conference to be held in Beijing, October 2008.
- Biennial Australian Studies Conference. The Council financially supports each conference. The next conference will be held at Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing in October 2008. Previous conferences were:

The Australia-China Council also supports the development of the Shanghai Municipal Library Australian Collection and the Australian collection at Beijing Foreign Studies University.
