Portable Document Format [ PDF ]
The Portable Document Format, or PDF as it is commonly known, is a technology developed by Adobe Systems. It allows documents designed for print output to be compressed into portable electronic files ready for online viewing, printing and downloading. These files retain the original layout and presentation intended by the designer and are suitable for high quality printing.
The files can be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader, available as a free download from the Adobe web site. To maintain universal accessibility, PDF files should be formatted with machine readable text, structured headings and appropriate bookmarks for easy navigation using the full Adobe Acrobat software.
