International Counter-Terrorism

Sub-Regional Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism

On 5-6 March 2007, Australia and Indonesia co-hosted the Sub-Regional Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism. Foreign Ministers, Justice Ministers and Police Chiefs from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand attended the conference.

The conference built on the outcomes of the 2004 Bali Ministerial Meeting on Counter-Terrorism and was successful in advancing cooperation between the six countries most immediately affected by the threat from regional terrorist groups. The conference agreed on key outcomes to counter extremism and radicalisation; strengthen law enforcement and intelligence cooperation; counter the illegal movement of small arms and light weapons; improve legal frameworks and respond to mass casualty terrorist attacks.
