DFAT Reconciliation Action Plan

Enhancing and building on Public Diplomacy

Key Reconciliation Result Area:

5. Enhancing and building on Public Diplomacy

Business Objective:

Public Diplomacy is one of the key functions conducted by the department.  Public Diplomacy programs, which are primarily carried out by the Images of Australia Branch, aim to:

  • project a positive and accurate image of Australia internationally;
  • identify and counter misleading perceptions of Australia; and
  • promote Australia’s foreign and trade policies to diverse audiences.

It is an important example of the department’s commitment to raising awareness of Indigenous Australia and creating economic opportunities for Indigenous communities from cultural exchange

Business Strategy:

Through its activities in Australia and via its network of overseas posts, DFAT promotes diversity and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians
