Recruitment of Indigenous Australians

Key Reconciliation Result Area:

1. Recruitment of Indigenous Australians

Business Objective:

To improve employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians. Continue to provide opportunities for Indigenous Australians to aspire to representing Australia overseas, particularly as they can provide useful insights into other cultures and have an ability to build strong relationships within countries which have strong Indigenous populations and influence.

Business Strategy:

Continue to attract talented and skilled Indigenous Australians and to increase the number of Indigenous Australians employed in the department through targeted Indigenous Australians employment and lateral recruitment programs.

- Two Indigenous graduates,

Seek to recruit Indigenous employees through bulk recruitment and specialist rounds as well as by lateral transfer Staff Development and Post Issues Branch

Recruit through targeted advertising; direct contact with Indigenous studies centres and university careers advisory services; and by having an informative, up-to-date and appropriately targeted website> Staff Development and Post Issues Branch As appropriate Number of Indigenous employees participating in the university campus visits program

Seek to retain at least three Identified Indigenous positions:

Annual Reconciliation Action Plan Report
On completion of the cadetship, graduates will be offered an ongoing position with DFAT. They will be eligible to participate in the Graduate Training Program and eligible to apply for DFAT’s Graduate Traineeship Program and/or the Corporate and Financial Management Traineeship Program Staffing Development and Post Issues Branch As negotiated appropriately between the Indigenous Cadet and Staffing Development Branch Number of National Indigenous Cadetship Program (NICP) cadet graduates in DFAT
