Australia-Korea Early Career Researchers Exchange Program
The Australia-Korea Foundation, together with partners the Australian Academy of Science (AAS), the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), and their Korean counterpart, the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), has launched the second round of the Early Career Researchers Exchange Program (ECRP).
After a successful two way program in 2008, the AKF will continue the ECRP exchange for 2009 with Korean researchers visiting Australia to work on collaborative research projects with host institutions. In consultation with all partners, five Korean researchers have been selected. The researchers will participate in the exchange in Australia from mid-June 2009 until mid-August 2009.
The program develops a greater awareness of areas of common research interest and highlights how sharing expertise in science and technology can bring mutual benefits. Early career researchers from both countries work on collaborative research projects and are embedded in their host institution for up to 3 months. The program also involves mentors in the development and evaluation of each project allowing the researchers to engage with leading Australian and Korean researchers in their specific research field.
The first group of Korean early career researchers were in Australia between September and December 2007. Australian participants visited Korea between April and June 2008. Tangible outcomes included the ability of participants to acquire specific knowledge related to their current research, the expansion of areas for future research between institutions, papers for journals and conferences, as well as the valuable cultural experience gained and the many friendships established during their time in each other’s country.
